ABOUT WORKSHOP
Indian temples are not just structures, but vibrant expressions of cultural heritage. They weave together worldly and spiritual aspects, representing the vast universe (Macrocosm) on a smaller scale (microcosm). Historically, temples were hubs of learning, nurturing art forms and knowledge transmission. They offered emotional and spiritual solace, serving as centres for Vedic studies.
Existing temples and their construction texts embody India's intangible heritage. While their grand architecture and symbolic iconography hold profound meaning, these elements are often under-appreciated. By delving into traditional texts, we can unlock the genius behind their creation. Furthermore, understanding Indian mythology and history deepens this exploration. This multi-dimensional approach can inspire future generations to grasp the creativity and effectiveness of these ancient masterpieces.
The objection of this workshop is to:
give a broad outline of the cultural history of India and classical mythology.
understand the fundamentals of temple architecture by going through original texts
study temple iconography.
understand how temples served as focal points of all socio-cultural, economic, religious and spiritual activities.
